Obituary for Mary M Hedden Mary Margaret Hedden, 84, formerly of Richmond, Virginia, passed away peacefully among family, on July 17, 2018, at Brightwater Retirement Community, in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Born January 14, 1934 in St. Paul, Minnesota, Mary was the daughter of the late Eugene and Auverne Marie Kelly Gouette. She moved with her family from St. Paul, MN to Chelan and then Wenatchee, Washington, where she attended Lake Chelan Junior High, Chelan High School, and graduated from Wenatchee High School in 1952.

Mary earned her Associates in Arts from Wenatchee Junior College in 1954 and Bachelor of Arts in Education in 1957 from Eastern Washington College of Education and began her elementary school teaching career overseas on military bases in France, Germany and Okinawa. Mary returned to the States, married and raised a family. She was involved in many charitable organizations and events related to elementary schools and church.

Mary was a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas and an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Richmond, Virginia where she was a Eucharistic minister and volunteer. Mary also worked with the Virginia Department of the Blind and Visually Impaired for many years as a driver and companion. Mary was a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Her love for adventures continued throughout her life as she traveled extensively around the world visiting each continent. Mary never met a stranger and could talk to anyone. She loved reading, crossword puzzles, sewing, crocheting, counted cross stitching, traveling and spending time with family.

She is survived and lovingly remembered by two children, Kathryn Hawley (Harold) of Myrtle Beach, SC and R. Michael Hedden (Joye) of Mechanicsville, VA; two brothers, Michel Gouette of Klamath Falls, OR and Peter Gouette (Sherry) of Melbourne, FL; five grandchildren, Lauren and Alexander Hawley and Hannah, Nathan and Alexis Hedden; two nephews, Kelley Gouette (Tracy) and Geoff Gouette (Jackie) and several great nephews and a niece.
