Obituary for Karen McCarter Pawleys Island Karen McCarter, age 67, of Pawleys Island, passed away Sunday, July 8, 2018 at Waccamaw Hospital. Karen was born, along with her twin sister, on September 16, 1950 in Bennington, VT. She was the daughter of the late Karl & Cecelia Kipp.

Her childhood nickname was Karrots, a compliment to her sister’s, Peas. Although she was a twin, Karen was one definitely of a kind. The Kipp family moved to North Carolina in 1958, and Karen later graduated from Ashboro High School in 1968.

She went on to attend Wingate College and Appalachian State University where she graduated in 1973 with a Bachelor’s in Education. Afterwards, Karen began her teaching career. She married Ted McCarter on February 23, 1980.

A few years later Karen had her first son, and moved to Georgia. Karen and Ted later had another son, and raised their children in Peachtree City, GA. Teaching continued to be a passion at St. John the Evangelist Catholic School, where she molded young lives for 22 years.

In her free time Karen loved to enjoy golf cart rides, dining out, and attending functions for her kids. Recently, Ted and Karen moved to Pawley’s Island, SC to enjoy what she loved best, the beach and flip flops. Karen is preceded by her parents, Karl & Cecelia Kipp, and her sister Susan Chambers.

She is survived by her husband Ted, sons Kipp & Ben, daughter-in-law Anastasiya, sisters Dawn and Sharon. Further survived by nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. A memorial service will be held at 10 am, Thursday July 12, 2018 at Goldfinch Funeral Home, Beach Chapel.
