Obituary for Mary Montel Smith Mary Montel Smith Mary Montel Smith, age 91, of Corydon, KY, passed away at 11:40 A.M., Saturday, June 23, 2018, at her home under the care of St. Anthony’s Hospice. Montel was preceded in death by her husband, Hosea Raymond Smith Sr., brothers, Carlos and Joe Billy Logsdon, sister, Betty Ann Abner and her grandson, Jodie Yates. Montel loved her church family and was a very devote Christian lady.
She had attended Corydon Missionary Baptist Church since the age of 2 years old. At the tender age of 16, she married her husband Hosea R. Smith Sr. and together had 4 children. She worked at CBS Dress Factory for 15 years and was a master quilter and seamstress.
Later in life she was the bookkeeper in Corydon for the Kentucky State Highway Garage and transferred to their Madisonville location before retiring at the age of 62. She was very proud of her membership with Order of Eastern Star Chapter #475 and #186 for over 65 years. She served as State Grand Officer in 1985 for Betty Riggs.
Survivors include: 2 Daughters: Mary Lou Bantly Henderson, KY Pat Vowels Corydon, KY 2 Sons: Hosea Smith Jr. and his wife Brenda Corydon, KY Mike Smith and his wife Debby Corydon, KY 1 Sister: Helen Brown Henderson, KY 13 Grandchildren Several Great Grandchildren Nieces and nephews Relatives and friends are invited to Montel’s Life Celebration from 2:00-8:00 P.M. Tuesday at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home, Henderson, KY and again on Wednesday, June 27, 2018 from 9:00A.M. until service time at the church. The Funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 27, 2018 at Corydon Missionary Baptist Church, Corydon, KY with Rev. Rick O’Daniel and Brother Rick Gannon officiating.
Burial will follow at Fairmont Cemetery, Henderson, KY. An Order of Eastern Star Service will be held at 7:30 P.M. Tuesday evening at Benton-Glunt Funeral Home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Corydon Missionary Baptist Church or St Anthony’s Hospice.
