Mary Jean Kraynak, 80, of Horner passed away after a brief illness on Sunday, March 17, 2019 at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown surrounded by loving family. She was born on April 27, 1938 in Portersville, PA a daughter of the late Clarence and Ruth Palmer. On September 27, 1989 she married the love of her life John Thomas Kraynak and together they shared 29 wonderful years of marriage.

Mary’s wonderful cooking will be remembered by her husband, John; three sons: Robert Jay Sommerfeld of Jane Lew, Timothy James Sommerfeld and wife, Lorie, of Corryton, TN, and Todd Allen Sommerfeld of Conneaut, OH; three step-children: John Kraynak Jr. of Youngstown, OH, Vickie Ann Kraynak of Williamsport, PA, and Jeanie Marie Kraynak of Jackson, MS; six grandchildren: Joshua, Alex, Nick, Travis, Staci, and Jonathan Sommerfeld; one step-grandchild, Rebecca Fowler; and two siblings: Helen Coryea of Groves City, PA, and Dale Palmer of Church, VA. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; one infant daughter; three sisters: Louise Reimold, Twila Vicktor, and Lois Riddle; and one brother, Dwayne Palmer. After graduating from Mercer High School in Mercer, PA in 1957, Mary went to work for Kroger.

Her love of food enticed her to work as a cafeteria manager for Corhart in Buckhannon, and later retired from Louie Glass. She especially enjoyed cooking for her family. Mary also enjoyed canning vegetables.

She was a member of Broad Run Baptist Church and will be missed by all who knew her. Family and friends will gather at the Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service located at 144 Hackers Creek Rd. in Jane Lew from 4-7 p.m. on Wenesday, March 20, 2019.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. in the Pat Boyle Funeral Chapel with Pastor Allen Burnsworth and Reverend Bill Coffindaffer officiating. Interment will follow at Broad Run Church Cemetery in Jane Lew. The Pat Boyle Funeral Home and Cremation Service is honored and privileged to serve the family of Mary Jean Kraynak.
