Mary Rohrs, 96, of Glen Ellyn, recently of Wheaton, passed away Sunday, July 22, 2018. She was born October 10, 1921, the daughter of Ed and Edna Doyle of Glen Ellyn. She was the eldest of nine; brothers Ed and Bob, sisters Joanne, Patricia, Vada, Herbie, Rosemary and Susan.

Mary was one of the original graduating class of Glenbard West High School. Her first husband Art Johnston was shot down over France in 1944. A pregnant war widow, she had her daughter Judy in 1944.

In 1945, Mary started The Mother Goose shop in Glen Ellyn. She built the Mother Goose Shop into one of the largest and most respected independent children’s clothing stores in the Chicagoland area. Mary sold the store in 1978 after 33 years of successful operation.

She married John Rohrs, also of Glen Ellyn, in 1952, where they had two additional children, Patti (Sedarski) and John Rohrs, Jr. Mary was deceased by her husband John in 2003. She is survived by her daughters, Judy (Marv Moeller), Patti (Tom Sedarski) and son, John (Cynthia). She also leaves behind seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.

A lifelong parishioner of St. Petronille, Mary loved spending time with her friends, but most of all her large and vibrant extended family. She passed away peacefully Sunday afternoon with her family by her bedside. There will be a viewing and funeral Mass Saturday, July 28 at St. Petronille.

The viewing begins 9:00 A.M. with the funeral Mass beginning at 11:00 A.M. In lieu of flowers the family requests donation be made to the food bank of Glen Ellyn or to Halle’s Hope Foundation (HallesHope.org).
