Obituary for Master Sergeant Gary “Rat” Steven Ratcliff Master Sergeant Gary S. “Rat” Ratcliff age 63 a resident of Cleveland passed away Sunday at the family residence. Master Sergeant Ratcliff was preceded in death by his parents John and Helen Ratcliff. He grew up in Cleveland TN.

, where he attended Arnold Jr. High where he played football he then graduated from Bradley Central High School in 1974, where he also played football. He joined the United States Marine Corps in 1978 where he learned about electronics and communications. Later on in his career as a Marine he began teaching electronics and became Communications Maintenance Shop Chief.

He also became a scuba diver instructor. He was stationed at several different locations throughout his career including North Carolina, Virginia, Colorado, California and Hawaii, with tours in the Philippines, Okinawa and Kuwait. He retired from the Marines as a Master Sergeant in 2002.

He spent eight years of his life taking care of his parents until their death. He is survived by his loving wife Wanda Ratcliff, his step sons Raymond Gregory Taylor and Emery Taylor his grandchild Deletra Wilke and his brother Jeff Ratcliff and his wife Sherry. A Remembrance of Life Service will be held graveside Thursday October 25, 2018 at the Chattanooga National Cemetery with full military honors.
