Matthew J. O’Connor, age 84, passed away peacefully in his sleep on September 9, 2018 in his home in Belmont with his family close at hand. He is survived by his wife of more than 60 years, Nancy (Mungovan) “the love of his life” and by his three children, Carolyn and her husband John of Belmont, Matthew O’Connor Jr. of Belmont, and Nancy Ann and her husband Al Castignetti of Mendham, New Jersey. Cherished “Papa” of Michael, Stephen, Joe, Jackie, and Lauren, he is also survived by his sister, Mary Ziino of Bridgewater, MA and was predeceased by his brothers, John and Bartly O’Connor.

Matthew proudly served his country during the Korean War in the US Navy. Visiting hours will be held in the Brown & Hickey Funeral Home 36 Trapelo Road, Belmont on Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 1 – 4 p.m. A funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Monday, September 17, 2018 at 11 a.m Relatives and friends invited. Interment Belmont Cemetery, Belmont.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Matthew’s memory to the VFW, Waverly Post 1272, 310 Trapelo Rd. , Belmont, MA 02478.
