Obituary of Matthew Durant Oneida-Matthew D. Durant, age 59, of Liberty Street passed away peacefully Thursday afternoon June 21, 2018 after a courageous battle with cancer in the Oneida Healthcare Center with his loving family at his side. He was born on January 3, 1959, in Oneida, New York a son of the late Stanley P. and Catherine “Anne” (Conley) Durant. Matt was a graduate of V.V.S. High School and went on to further his education for two years at MVCC.

On August 29, 1981, he married Carol A. Grow in St. Helena’s Church and shared this union of over 36 years together. Before Matt’s illness he was employed as a supervisor with the novelty ice cream producer Washburn Dairy of Gloversville. He enjoyed golfing and taking part in his dart league.

Surviving are his wife, Carol A. Durant of Oneida; his son, Michael Durant and his companion Patti Harrington; his daughter, Hollan Durant and companion David Werling of Ossian, IN; his four grandchildren, Devan Mathews, Raylynn Durant, Emma Crippen, and Benjamin Crippen; his two sisters and their spouses, Cathy (Steve) Stitch, and Melissa (Jeff) Chamberlin, best friend Keith Snyder; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews. Matt was predeceased by his parents Stan and Anne Durant, and his brother Marty Durant. A celebration of Matt’s life will be held at a mass of Christian Burial on Saturday June 30, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Helena’s Church, Primo Ave.

, Sherrill. Burial will follow in St. Helena’s Cemetery, Oneida, New York. There will be no public calling hours.
