Obituary for Mattie Lee Larkins Saratoga Springs, NY Mattie Lee Larkins, age 95, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, November 7, 2018 at Wesley Health Care Center in Saratoga Springs. She was born Madeline Lee Jones on February 25, 1923 in Prospect, Virginia to Robert and Madeline (Scott) Jones. In 1943, Mattie married Julius Cesar Larkins; together they had five children.

They moved from Virginia to Jersey City, New Jersey, then to Saratoga Springs by 1944, where they built a beautiful life of Christian service and leadership. Mattie was a member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church where her husband was Pastor, and then the Soul Saving Station for Every Nation for 59 years. She was the leader of the Deaconess Board, Treasurer, head of the Ushers Board and coordinator of the weekly Tuesday Consecration Prayer.

Mattie enjoyed gardening, cooking, sewing, ministering to those in need and caring for the needy. She took in foster children for free and offered a place of refuge for many children in need of love. She was a self-employed caregiver to this sick and infirm.

Left to honor her and carry on her legacy are her four children: James (Juliana) Vieques, PR, John (Betsy) East Orange, NJ, Lee (Gale) Ballston Spa, NY and Diana (Keith) Wayne, NJ; 14 of her 15 grandchildren; 21 of her 22 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren and a host of great nieces and nephews. Mattie was predeceased in death by her parents, Robert and Madaline Jones, her husband, Rev. Julius C. Larkins, her son Julius C. Larkins Jr., her brothers Robert, John, James and Milton; her sisters Elizabeth (Ginny) and Jessie; her grandson Steven O. Larkins and her great grandson Kazmir.

Mattie will be remembered as a righteous prayer warrior, faithfully and diligently praying for her community, spiritually lost, her family and spiritual leaders daily. Home going celebration will be Saturday, November 17, 2018 at Soul Saving Station Church, 62 Henry St., Saratoga Springs, New York at 12 PM. The family will great friends as well as viewing from 10-12PM on Saturday, November 17, 2018.

Interment will be at the Greenridge Cemetery on Lincoln Avenue, Saratoga Springs immediately following services. In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Mattie’s name to the Mother Susan Anderson Woman’s Shelter 60 Caroline St., Saratoga Springs, NY 12866. The services for Maddie are interested to the Tunison Funeral Home 105 Lake Ave.
