Max L. Medlin, 83, of Carmi, passed away at 5:15 a.m., Thursday, May 31, 2018 at Hamilton Memorial Hospital in McLeansboro, IL. He was born in White County, IL on September 13, 1934 the son of Lawrence L. and Mildred Madeline (Barton) Medlin. Max married Phyllis Lee Gunter in 1953 and she survives.

He retired from Wabash Valley Service Company as the “L.P. Man” after 30 years. Max enjoyed working in the yard, riding his John Deere mower and taking excellent care of his cars and trucks. Max’s greatest joy was his small family.

They were all very close and loved him very much. He was a wonderful dad, Pa and Pappy. He looked forward to special occasions, such as his birthday and Father’s Day.

He enjoyed all the attention and spending those special days with his family. Max and Phyllis always had their four-legged friends throughout their years together. Ted, their French Bulldog, survives.

Max is survived by his children Peggy and C.R. Williams of McLeansboro, IL; his grandchildren Lora (Ryan) O’Daniel and Jonathan (Susie) Williams of Carmi, IL; two great-grandsons, Alexander Lee and Maxon O’Daniel; family members, Clayton Campbell, Phil and Kay Huffer and John and Carolyn Gunter, all of Enfield. He was preceded in death by a special sister-in-law, Gloria Ann Campbell, a great-grandson, Nicholas O’Daniel and cherished friends, Jerry and Joan Foley. The family would like to extend a sincere thank you to Dr. Alec Hood and the nursing staff at Hamilton Memorial Hospital for their professionalism and outstanding care.

A graveside funeral services and burial for Max L. Medlin, 83, of Carmi, will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 2, 2018 at Enfield Cemetery with Rev. John Gunter officiating. A fellowship to celebrate the life of Max will be held at the First Christian Church in Carmi immediately following the service.

Memorial contributions may be made in Max’s memory to Hamilton Memorial Hospital and will be accepted at Campbell Funeral Home in Carmi who is in charge of arrangements.
