Maxine Elliott Purdy passed away 12-27-18 at North Valley Hospital with her children by her side. She was born July 22, 1931 to Olive and Humphrey Elliott in Eureka, MT. She attended school at Eureka, first at Roosevelt Grade school and then Lincoln County High School.
Her class was the first class to have an 8th grade graduation from Roosevelt under J.R. Culver. Maxine married Larry Purdy on June 25, 1948. They had two children, Victoria Purdy Tisdell and Douglas Lawrence Purdy.
Later they divorced in 1972. She remarried on September 3, 1977 to Charles Cope. She had five step children in that marriage, Duane, Judy, Terri, Russell and John Cope.
They divorced in 1984. Maxine was very involved in her children’s lives. She was an assistant leader in Girl Scouts and a Den Leader in Cub Scouts.
Actually, she was a Brownie and Girl Scout herself. She was also very involved in the Community she loved. She was a member of the Legion Auxiliary, Sundowners Home Demonstration (President 7 years and State Delegate), a Member of First Baptist Church since she was 12 years old and owner of Fortine Merc 1967-1974 She loved movies, reading magazines and books, writing Poetry, gardening, home decorating, cooking and collecting cookbooks and visiting & meeting new people (“Never met a Stranger”).
Maxine worked at Christmas treeing and clerked at Gambles, Eureka Commercial and Fortine Merc. Maxine loved living in Eureka her whole life where she felt connected to all the people who ever called the Tobacco Valley their home. She was preceded in death by parents Humphrey and Olive Elliott, 3 Brothers Cecil (Ann) Elliott, Don (Mary) Elliott, Bill (Maggie) Elliott; 3 Sisters Olive “Sis” (Harvey) Swenson, Marjorie (Jim) St. Peter, Peggy (Bryce) Hibbert and a daughter-in-law Karin Brydges Purdy.
Maxine was the last of the Elliott Family. Survivors include her daughter Vicki (Gary) Tisdell; a son Doug Purdy (Flori Benner); grandsons Tony (Paula) Tisdell, Skip (Michelle) Klemz; Ryan (Rhiannon) Christenson; great grandchildren Austin Tisdell, Matthew Tisdell, Diana Tisdell, Alexander Klemz, Vivienne Klemz, Maya Christenson, William Christenson, Jorja Christenson and lots of nieces, nephews and friends. Services and dinner will be held at 2:00 PM at the First Baptist Church on Friday, February 8, 2019.
