Maxine LaVerne, the daughter of Edward and Minnie (Carlson) Roseberry, was born on August 23, 1919 in Scotland, SD. She attended two years of high school in Yankton, SD after which time her family moved to Cedar Falls, IA where she graduated high school with the Class of 1936. Following school she worked for Wagner Overhead Door Company for three years.

She met the love of her life, Willard J. Wahl and they were married on December 2, 1939. To this union they had a daughter, Nancy, born in 1942. Maxine moved to Parkersburg, IA where she and her husband owned and operated Wahl Hardware for 45 years.

Together they enjoyed going to auctions, refinishing furniture, working in the yard, music and church circles. They were members of Bethel Lutheran Church in Parkersburg. Maxine moved to Norwalk to be near family in 2008.

She died peacefully Wednesday afternoon, April 11, 2018 at Wesley Acres in Des Moines, under the wonderful care of Kindred Hospice. She lived 98 years, 7 months, and 19 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, W.J. in 2001; a son-in-law, Kenneth Arbogast in 2014; and 8 siblings.

She is survived her daughter, Nancy Arbogast of Norwalk; grandsons, Eric (Teri) Arbogast and Scott (Dawn) Arbogast; and two great-grandsons, Mitchell and Jackson Arbogast. A visitation with the family will be 4 to 5 p.m. Sunday, April 15th at O’Leary Funeral Services in Norwalk. A private graveside service will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery in Parkersburg.
