Obituary for Mr. Melvin A. Hood Melvin A. Hood, “M.A.”, was born in Clayton N.C. on March 15, 1932 to William and Hallie Hood. He entered into eternal rest on Monday, October 8, 2018 at home surrounded by his beloved family in Neptune, NJ. He served in the Air Force for 12 years during the Korean War.

After settling in NJ he worked as an Administrator and recruited college interns for Johnson and Johnson and Eastern Airlines. He was part of many organizations including the Richard Nixon’s campaign, Neptune Township Board of Education, and the Board of Monmouth County Park Commissioners until his health declined. He was the owner of the Famous Jason’s Jazz and Blues Club in Belmar, NJ.

Melvin was predeceased by the love of his life for over 50 years, his wife, Jean Hood, and his brother James Clark of North Carolina, and close family, Al Avery, Linberg Everette and Joe Everette all of Michigan. He is survived by his son, Brian Hood, daughter, Terry Hood, both of NJ, and grandchildren Davon and Basheer Pelzer. He is also survived by Frances and Cora Mae Hood, of North Carolina, and many members of the Hood Family.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 16 from 6pm-8pm, with a religious service at 7pm, at Ely Funeral Home, Neptune. Burial will take place on Wednesday 12:30pm at the NJ Veterans Cemetery, Wrightstown. To send a memorial gift to the family of Mr. Melvin A. Hood please visit our Sympathy Store.
