Melvin “Mel” Bray Foster, 74, of Kokomo, Indiana, passed away on Wednesday, October 10th, 2018. He was born on October 18, 1943 in Cleveland. Lived in Santa Monica, Cleveland, Muncie, and then settled in Kokomo in 1970.

He had lived an eventful life full of fun stories and adventures. He played the guitar, sang, rode motorcycles, played in a band, hung out with famous actor’s children while living in California, and became an Eagle Scout in his younger years. Mel was an accomplished man, role model, and mentor.

Mel was known as “Mr. Fixit”, master craftsman, handyman, jack-of-all trades, and a perfectionist. When it came to work, he would always say “If you can’t do it right, don’t do it at all”. If he didn’t know how to do it, he would learn how to.

He persevered to create a life for his family and was a very motivated man. He put 110% effort into anything he did, from working as an auto mechanic, building superintendent, can factory worker, milk man, short-order cook, vending and jute box service man, vending service manager, owning his own mobile washing business, building and remodeling homes, refinishing cars, starting his own cabinetry business, and working as a subcontractor. Mel was a driven professional with an unmatched work ethic.

Mel’s honesty and integrity created work that was unmatched in quality. His energetic personality and drive for continued improvement led Mel to be self-made and self-educated. Earning his G.E.D. at age 46, it was most important to Mel to be able to provide for his family.

He always enjoyed working outside mowing, gardening, and fixing up things and was eager to assist his neighbors with same. In Mel’s mind, there was always something that he had to do or would like to do. He worked harder than anyone to the very end.

Mel is survived by his beloved wife, Eunice, of 55 years; son, Doug; daughter, Sandi (husband, Bill) Mack; grandchildren, Michael, Brandi, Caleb, Andrew, and Holly; great grandchildren, Donovan, Athena, and Alex. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. A memorial service will be held at Bennett’s Switch Community Church, 2261 West State Road 18, Kokomo, IN 46901, on Saturday, October 27, 2018 at 1:00 pm.
