Obituary for Michael Edward Badolato Sr. On April 12, 2018, Michael Edward Badolato, Sr., age 92, passed peacefully from this life with his family at his side. Mike was born and raised in Baltimore, Maryland and was the son of Michael and Grace Badolato, hardworking Italian immigrants, one of eight children. He was raised in west Baltimore and until World War II attended Baltimore Polytechnic High School and worked in a steel mill.

Part of “The Greatest Generation”, he grew up during the depression and at the age of eighteen enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force. He was a a proud World War II veteran, enlisting in February 1944, and was trained as an armorer and was a ball turret gunner and air crew member aboard B-24 bombers, serving his country with the 33rd Bomb Squadron, 22nd Bomb Group in the Pacific theater attaining the rank of Sergeant. He served in quite a number of campaigns, Bismarck Archipelago, China Defensive, China Offensive, New Guinea, Luzon and western Pacific.

Mike’s decorations included Air Medal, Good Conduct Medal, American Theater Ribbon, Philippine Liberation Ribbon with One Bronze Star and World War II Victory Ribbon. After the war, Mike was discharged honorably and returned to Baltimore. There he met and married Betty Lee Anderson, and remained a devoted husband for over 68 years.

They raised three boys, Michael Edward Badolato, Jr., Daniel Lee Badolato, and David Louis Badolato (who passed away in infancy). He was a career businessman, and after his return from World War II service began as a bookkeeper, then a cashier in the insurance field. Throughout is career he worked with several insurance companies and was ultimately a Bond Manager with CNA, where he retired.

Mike was an avid golfer and followed it closely, and was a member of the Royal Golf Club, sharing his passion for the game with his wife Betty. He also was an avid reader. Mike was a devout Catholic and was a Member of the Church of the Nativity, in Lutherville, Maryland where he raised his family and lived most of his retirement.

After their retirement in Maryland, Mike and Bettyenjoyed travel throughout the United States and throughout Europe. They played lots of golf enjoying many golf courses in their travels. They enjoyed dining out frequently.

They then relocated to Conway, SC to reside near their son Dan and his wife Diane, whom they remained very close. Mike and Betty were inseparable and were both involved in their children’s activities in Boy Scouts Troop 497 in Texas, MD and Explorers Post 998 in Timonium, MD, then with the Kiwanis Club in Timonium and Towson, Maryland. Mike was past President, Secretary and Treasurer during his time with Kiwanis which spanned 50 years.

Mike is survived by his wife Betty, two sons, Michael Jr. of Montana and Utah, Daniel and his wife Diane of Conway, SC; grandchildren, David Louis Badolato and wife Meghan, and Christopher Daniel Badolato, and two little great granddaughters, Grace Anne “Gracie” and Frances Mae “Frankie”. He is also survived by sisters, Carmela Gibson and Grace Kilchenstein and many cousins, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by sisters, Mary Badolato, Rose Butler, and Gloria Cieri; and brothers Anthony “Al” Badolato and Louis “Lou” Badolato.

A memorial service will be held in Mike’s honor the following morning at 11:00 am at Goldfinch Funeral Home Beach Chapel. A reception will follow.
