Michael O’Mara, 62, of Lake Odessa passed unexpectedly at his home on December 27, 2018. On November 15, 1956 he was born in Ionia to Lawrence and Ruth (Maurer) O’Mara. He was a graduate of Lakewood Schools and received his bachelor’s degree from Olivet College and a Master’s Degree from MSU.

On October 12, 1979 he married Paige Brown. Mike was a lifetime resident and area educator and retired as Superintendent of Lakewood Schools in 2015. Mike was an avid hunter and outdoorsman which included camping and traveling, loved athletics and sports especially the Lakewood Vikings and the MSU Spartans.

Spending time with his family and friends was the most important part of Mike’s life. He is survived by: his wife Paige, children; Branden (Kristin) 0’Mara, Gabriel (Megan) O’Mara, Wade (Liz) O’Mara and Hannah O’Mara, mother Ruth O’Mara, grandchildren; Grant O’Mara, Maeve O’Mara and Brenna O’Mara, siblings; Patricia (Bob) Ironside, Dennis (Kim) O’Mara, Teresa (Mel) Kelly, Ed (Kristi) O’Mara, Shawn (Kathy) O’Mara and Melissa (Shawn) O’Gorman, many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will be held at the St. Edwards Family Center, 531 Washington Blvd.

, Lake Odessa on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 2pm until 4pm and 6pm until 8pm with a Rosary being held at 7:30pm. Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11am at St. Edwards Catholic Church. Private burial will take place in Lakeside Cemetery.

In Lieu of flowers memorials in Mike’s name can be given the Lakewood Education Foundation, St. Edwards Catholic Church or Lakewood Athletic Association.
