Obituary for Michael “Mike” Babka Jr. Print BABKA – Michael Dennis Babka, Jr., 62, of Comstock Park, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2019, after a year-long battle with a brain tumor. He is preceded in death by his sister, Jeanne Hollerbach. Mike is survived by the love of his life of 40 years, Grace DiBenedetto; parents, Mike and Barbara Babka; sister, Bonnie Sawinski; brother, Tim (Tonya) Babka; brother-in-law, David Hollerbach; goddaughter and cousin, Julie (Edward) Burton; nephews, Eric, Nick and Matt; niece, Lindsey; grandnephews, Ryder and Knox; grandniece Kendall; many cousins and many friends he considered family.

Mike and his lifelong partner Grace owned and operated Mike’s Cycle Station for 37 years. His passion for motorcycles began in the mid 70’s working as a mechanic for Wilson’s Harley Davidson, and raced both flat track and TT, along with ice racing in the pro ranks. He gave up racing in the late 70’s in order to open up his own repair shop, and by 1982 he had a successful business on West River Drive in Comstock Park.

After a few moves, Mike’s Cycle Station settled in its current location on Alpine Avenue. Mike returned to racing in 1989 and for the next few years won many state and national championships. Mike was a long time member of the prestigious Dilly Wacker Motorcycle Club, and he never in 35 years missed the yearly trip up north with them.

He made many great memories trail riding with his friends and every year lead a small group to trail ride in the mountains of Colorado. Mike and his family would like to thank all of his caregivers at Spectrum Health and Mary Free Bed for helping him through his last year. The family will receive family and friends at the Beuschel Funeral Home, 5018 Alpine Avenue, Comstock Park, on Sunday, March 3, 2019 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a time of sharing at 3:30 p.m. In memory of Mike, please consider memorial contributions to Mary Free Bed or Alpine Township Fire Department Association.
