Michael H. “Mike” Tautkus, 68, of Neponset, died Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at OSF St Luke Medical Center, Kewanee. Mike was born August 27, 1950, in Kewanee, the son of Jack and Becky (Hayden) Tautkus. Mike graduated from Western High School, Buda with the class of 1968.

Mike married Peggy Craine on July 23, 1977 in Kewanee, she survives. Mike is survived by his wife; son, Erik (Melissa) Tautkus, Dunlap; daughter, Stephanie (Chris) Grussing, Tolono, IL; five grandchildren, Jackson, Caroline,… Read More » Hayden, Liam, and Ellie; and one sister, Sue, FL. He was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers.

Mike graduated from Western Illinois University with a degree in Education. He owned the Fireside Inn in Neponset. He later worked and retired from the Illinois State Board of Education.

Mike attended St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Sheffield, as a little boy. Mike cheered on the Fighting Illini, and enjoyed snowmobiling, golfing, and racquetball. He especially loved working on the farm, vacationing with family and watching his grandchildren play sports.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Schueneman-Tumbleson Funeral Home. Pastor Marcus Throneburg will officiate. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Friday, December 14, 2018 at the funeral home.
