Obituary for Michael Dailey Michael Patrick Dailey, age 67, of Erie, passed away on Friday August 24, 2018, after an extremely courageous battle with Leukemia. Born September 27, 1950, in Erie, Pa. , he was the son of the late Michael and Jeanne (Donovan) Dailey.
After graduating from Strong Vincent High School in 1968, he attended Edinboro University and then went on to serve in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Mike worked for 38 years at GE Transportation until his retirement in 2012. Mike was an avid sports fan and enjoyed playing sports in his earlier years, especially wrestling and baseball.
He also volunteered many seasons as a softball and soccer coach. Mike loved music and attending concerts and passed this love of music on to his children. He also enjoyed crossword puzzles, playing the lottery and horse racing.
He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church. Mike was proud of his Irish heritage but became an “honorary Italian” when he married his wife Patty, in 1972. He especially enjoyed Sunday dinners at “503” with Patty’s famous sauce.
Above all, his greatest pride and joy was his family. Affectionately called Pop-Pop by his grandchildren, he always made time for those he loved and cherished every moment he spent with his wife, children and grandchildren. Mike’s positive and courageous attitude during his time with cancer serve as an inspiration to all who knew him.
He never lost sight of his grace or gratitude, and always took things one day at a time. He will be dearly missed by his loving family. In addition to his parents, Mike was preceded in death by his brother, Thomas Dailey; sister-in-law, Ruth (Dever) Dailey; mother-in-law, Josephine (Adiutori) DeBello; father-in-law Anthony DeBello, Sr.; and brother-in-law, Anthony DeBello, Jr. Mike is survived by his loving wife and best friend of 46 years, Patricia (DeBello) Dailey, who sat faithfully by his side for nearly two months of treatments at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, in New York City.
He is also survived by two daughters, Heather (Dailey) Weindorf (husband Mark) and Gretchen (Dailey) Baumann (husband Bryan) both of Erie; two grandsons, Michael Trapolsi and William Baumann; three step grand-daughters, Lauren, Julia and Maria Weindorf and another Baumann grandson on the way, all of Erie; a sister, Elizabeth Solvedt, of Girard; sister-in-law, Mary Ann DeBello, of Erie; sister-in-law, Kathleen DeBello (husband Dominick) of Estero, Florida; sister-in-law Marlene Hamm (husband Jack) of Henderson, Nevada; and many loving nieces and nephews, especially Shawn Dailey of Erie. The family would like to express their gratitude toward Dr. Rothman and the nurses and staff at the Regional Cancer Center, Dr. Smith and Dr. Hill at the Cleveland Clinic and Dr. Park and his clinical trial team at the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center for their outstanding care and dedication.
