Obituary for Mildred May Mildred Mae Murphey May Born September 21, 1929 in Mobeetie Texas to Odas and Bonnie Murphey – passed away peacefully in Sacramento County on September 3, 2018. Although she grew up in the Panhandle of Texas, her family moved to California when she was a teenager and she graduated from High School in Pomona California. Mildred married Bob May in Las Vegas on February 21, 1953.

The best deal Bob ever made. They were married for 59 years. As an Air Force wife all 4 of her children were born at different Air Force bases.

Gary at Hamilton AFB in California, Sandy at Chanute Field in Illinois. Karen at March AFB in California and Rick at Vandenberg AFB in California. They were also stationed in Kansas and North Dakota (2 blizzards in 2 years probably encouraged Bob’s retirement.

) After moving to California in 1972 Mildred worked for the state of California for 20 years. After her retirement in 1992 Mildred and Bob spent the next 15 years traveling the United States in their 5th wheel trailer. For several years they split their time between Elk Grove and Texico, New Mexico where they lived in their 5th wheel parked on Aunt Aileen and Uncle Bud’s farm.

I am not sure how much Mildred really liked living in such small quarters but she enjoyed being there and visiting with Aileen, Bud and their family. Mildred served as church secretary at most churches the family attended. She also spent many Sundays working in the nursery, especially when her grandchildren were of nursery age.

She volunteered at almost anything at the church as long as it did not include public speaking. Mildred REALLY loved spending time with her grandchildren. She babysat the kids every chance she could and attended almost every sporting event the kids had.

Bob came for the games, but Mildred came to spend time with her family. Her family meant so much to Mildred. She loved holiday gatherings, Sunday dinners after church, birthday celebrations, anytime her family came together.

Though she is gone from us physically she lives on in the memories of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She has gone from us but is reunited with Bob in heaven. She is survived by her children: Gary (Joyce), Sandy, Karen (David), Rick (Denise), grandchildren: Danny (Christy), Brittany, Grant (Lisa), Grace, Joel, Rick, great-grandchildren: Elijah, Layla, Greyson, Chloe, Finn, Riley Sent from my iPhone To send flowers to the family of Mildred May, please visit our Heartfelt Sympathies Store.
