Obituary for Miriam Strouse Shirley Miriam Strouse Shirley passed away Saturday, December 15, 2018 at home following a long illness. She was the daughter of Dr. George Clifford and Ruth L. Strouse, growing up in East Aurora, New York. She graduated college from The College of Wooster in Wooster, Ohio, where she met her husband of 59 years, Robert L. Shirley.

They were married December 27, 1955. Robert preceded her in death on October 5, 2014. Miriam “Mim” is survived by her sons: John Andrew Shirley, Brian (Marie Willet) Shirley; daughter, Ruth (Dean Glore) Bradfield; 8 grandchildren: Rachel (Drew Anthony) Shirley, Lauren Shirley, Madison Willet-Holman, Brooke Shirley, Liz (Ryan) Truax, Chelsea (Steve Schulte) Shirley, Shayna Bradfield, and Abigail Bradfield; 9 great-grandchildren; sister, Ann Strouse Fox; many nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Carolyn Murray.

Mim and Bob Lived briefly in Columbus, Ohio and Houston, Texas, before settling in North Muskegon. They bought and operated Teck-Tool Supply Company. Her daughter, Ruth, now owns and manages the company while also being her mother’s primary caregiver, coordinating the special care needed.

Mim had versatile talents as a seamstress, excellent cook, piano teacher, women’s bible class teacher, Deaconess, church secretary, kitchen coordinator for luncheons and funerals, children’s ministry leader, Sunday school teacher, and avid bird watcher. She was a thoughtful, gentle, loving person devoted to her family. Mim enjoyed reading, teaching crafts, playing games and attending school functions with her grandchildren.

The Shirley family is very grateful for the loving care Mim received during her illness. A special thanks to caregivers Gail, Jen, Tiffany, Alicia, Hattie, and the staff at Harbor Hospice. A CELEBRATION OF MIRIAM’S LIFE will be held 5:00 PM Saturday, December 29, 2018 at Calvary Bible Church (4617 Grand Haven Rd.

, Norton Shores, MI 49441) with Pastor Ed Arndt and Pastor Eric Stratton officiating, the day before her 85th birthday. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service.
