Most Rev. Edward J. Grams, 73, residing in Mishawaka, IN passed away at 6:45am on Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at Loyola University Medical Center, Maywood, IL. He was born on September 26, 1945 in Beech Grove, IN, to the late Daniel B. and Lillian A. (Besinger) Grams.

After graduating from St. Joseph High School in South Bend, IN, Rev. Ed earned a bachelor’s degree in commerce and business administration from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX and a master of science degree in education from the University of St. Francis in Ft. Wayne, IN.

In 1963, he joined the Brothers of Holy Cross Community. During his residence at the LeMans Academy in Rolling Prairie, IN, Rev. Ed served as assistant headmaster.

He went on to teach at Ivy Tech State College, also serving in the admissions department and subsequently as registrar, from which he retired in December 2012. Rev. Ed was preceded in death by his only sibling, Daniel B. Grams, Jr., as well as a dear friend, John Czyczel.

He is survived by his godson, Harvey (Diana) Adams, Jr. of La Porte, IN and his daughter, Elizabeth Adams; his good friend, Jeff Carney of South Bend; and John Czyczel’s children, John Czyczel, Jr. of South Bend and Jessica Gresser of Oregon; as well as John Czyczel’s sister, Carole Knoll of New Carlisle, IN. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00am on Tuesday, November 20, 2018 at St. Matthew Cathedral, 1701 Miami Street, South Bend, IN. Graveside services and burial will follow in St. Joseph Cemetery, Mishawaka.

Friends may visit with the family from 10:00-11:00am Tuesday in the church prior to Mass. Palmer Funeral Home – Hickey Chapel is assisting the family with arrangements. Expressions of sympathy in memory of Rev.

Ed may be donated to the Circle of Mercy Day Care Center, c/o Catholic Charities, 1817 Miami Street, South Bend, IN 46613. Online condolences may be left for the family at www. palmerfuneralhomes.com.
