Obituary for Mr Elroy Walter Schaedel Elroy Walter Schaedel Elroy W. Schaedel, 86, of Akron, passed away after a long life of faith, character, and integrity on April 24, 2018. Roy was born in Cleveland, OH on July 4, 1931 to Carl and Alice Schaedel. His early life revolved around church and family, a tradition which followed him throughout his years.
He served in the Korean War and upon his return started a career at Society National Bank (now Key Bank), beginning as a teller and retiring after 40 years of service in 1994 as a Senior Vice President. He took great pride in his work and loved the mental aspects as well as the relationships with his colleagues. In addition to his work with the bank, Roy was a former Chairman of the Board of Directors of Lutheran Hospital and upon his retirement was very involved with SCORE, a volunteer organization of retired executives working with small business owners.
Roy was married for 61 years to Elaine Hoffman whom he met while working at the West Side Market. Elaine predeceased him in 2016. He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Hedy Schaedel and will be deeply missed by his three children and their spouses; Linda Reyes (John), Eileen New (Chuck), and Richard Schaedel (Susan).
He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren; Michael Schoolcraft (Sharea), Matthew Schoolcraft, Maggie and Charlie New, Zackery Schaedel, and Jack and Sarah Reyes, as well as one great grandson, Micah Schoolcraft. Funeral services will be held SATURDAY, April 28 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church, 9201 Brecksville Rd. , Brecksville, OH 44141, with Pastor Randy O’Donnell officiating, followed by a reception at the church hall.
Friends may call one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will be held at Hope Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Christ the Redeemer Lutheran Church.
