In 1928, Mickey Mouse made his first appearance, the yo-yo was manufactured, Amelia Earhart flew solo across the Atlantic Ocean and penicillin was discovered. While many of these events have shaped humankind, one event less known to the world, but with all the same importance, was the birth of Nadine Connole in DeWitt, Iowa on March 24, 1928 to Ralph Connole and Irene Flannery Connole. Nadine is preceded in death by her parents Ralph and Irene Connole, sisters Lois Connole Griebel and Ruth Connole Hodson.

Survivors include sister, MargEl Mangan her children and families Greg and Dawn Mangan (Alexa and Jason), Mitch and Jean Mangan (Adam and Aaron), Bryan and Jennifer Mangan (Isabella), Colleen and Robert Schulte (Quinn, Nick and Jack), as well as plenty of extended family and friends who loved her immensely. Nadine grew up in DeWitt, Iowa where she attended St. Joseph’s School and DeWitt DeHawkes. Later she attended AIC to study bookkeeping.

Her exemplarily academic career gained the attention of Northwestern Mutual where she started working in the bookkeeping department. During her tireless career, Nadine worked for Marshall Stones Motors in Illinois, Peters Motors and Phillips 66 where she worked for 37 years. Her passion for bookkeeping and accounting led her to Russel Soenksen, and Vickie and Dewayne Poell, where she would eventually retire.

After the death of Jerry Mangan in 1964, which left Nadine’s sister MargEl Mangan a widow with four children, Nadine did not hesitate to devote herself to caring for the Mangan’s. She continued to do so for 54 years and because of that, Nadine is not considered to be an aunt of the Mangan children and grandchildren, but rather a second mother. Nadine was and will live on to be, an integral part of the family.

Having raised four young children alongside her sister, Nadine has given pure devotion to her family. All who know MargEl, also knew Nadine. Their lives are intertwined, not only as sisters, but as two woman who nurtured a family and since been able to experience a legacy of grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Through the years, Nadine’s hands have sewn many children’s garments, gifts of handmaid blankets, kneaded the dough of Sour Cream Cookies, stirred the mixture of Tom and Jerry’s and held on to every friend and family member when they needed it the most. As a steadfast child of God, Nadine was a pure and honest example of God’s love. Her faith has never wavered, and it is with complete certainty that we know she is resting in His kingdom along many angels thrilled to greet her.

Nadine passed away on December 28, 2018 in Fort Collins, CO due to heart issues. She will be laid to rest in the St. Joseph’s cemetery, along side family members. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. until the service time of 1:00 p.m. Friday, January 4, 2019, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, DeWitt.
