Obituary for Nancy Jo Jeffrey NANCY JO JEFFREY, 74 of Ogallala, passed away Friday, June 1, 2018, at North Platte. Nancy was born November 1, 1943, at Laramie, Wyoming to Charles and Reba (Smith) Hixson. She graduated from Rock River High School with the class of 1962.

In 1963, Nancy married Guy Skaggs at Laramie. The couple moved around for a while before eventually settling in Lamar, Nebraska. In 1972, they moved to Keystone, where she stayed at home and raised their family.

Nancy eventually went to work as a cook at Union 76, then Admirals Cove, and later, Mac’s in Brule. Most recently, Nancy had been residing at the North Platte Nursing Home. Nancy liked to keep her mind sharp with frequent reading and crossword puzzles.

It always seemed like she had 15 books checked out from the library at once. Nancy also loved to go to garage sales and hunt for bargains. She had a bit of a competitive streak which no doubt came from the Hixson side of her family, who were notorious for their loud and spirited card games.

Nancy loved the Fourth of July and the experience of watching the various parades that took place over the years. She was an excellent cook, with runzas, cinnamon rolls, and banana cream pie among her most celebrated confectionary works. Nancy got to spend a great deal of time with her grandchildren over the years, which was something that she celebrated.

Nancy was preceded in death by her parents; and her siblings, Sara Lee, Henry, Alfred, Alice, Danny, Charlie, and Harold. Survivors include her daughter, Reba (Kelly) Gies of Ogallala; sons, Robbie (Darlene) Skaggs of North Platte, Guy “Arnold” (Renee) Skaggs of Hull, MA, and Ed Skaggs of WY; 7 grandchildren, Frank, Kayleigh, Haley, Rebecca, Jessica, Denisa, and Chance; 3 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Vel (Hixson) Bolke of Casper, WY; a brother-in-law, Jim Nichelson of Casper, WY; along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Memorials are suggested to GracePoint Church in Ogallala in Nancy’s memory.
