Obituary for Nancy Kotel Ladd-Cook Nancy Kotel Ladd-Cook, 65, died November 1, 2018, at the Novant Medical Center in Mint Hill after courageously battling lung cancer for the past 8 years. Nancy was born in Blacksburg, SC, on March 30, 1953, the daughter of Martin and Viva York Kotel. Her family lived in Spartanburg and then in Florida.

As a young teenager, she came to Charlotte, NC, and graduated from Garinger High School. In February of 1985, she joined her partner in life, Ralph Cook. Nancy was always about caring for and serving others.

When working outside the home, she worked as a waitress, being the first hire at Jimmy’s Restaurant in Mint Hill. She also worked at Knife and Fork and at Dino’s Restaurant (now Americana) in Matthews. When not working, she enjoyed crocheting and could make beautiful blankets and sweaters.

Most of all, she loved her home and being a wife, mother and grandmother and she will be missed by those blessed to know her. Nancy is survived by her husband, Ralph; five children: Matthew Paul of Philadelphia, PA, Catherine (Eric Common) Cook of Mint Hill, Brittney (Eric Swett) Cook of Marshville, NC, Tyler Cook of Charleston, SC, and Tiffani Cook of Orangeburg, SC; a sister, Brenda (Bill) Price of Woodleaf, NC; a sister, Esther (Richard) Shields of Monroe, NC; a stepson Ralph E. Cook; a stepdaughter, Rhonda Michelle Cook; and a stepdaughter, Julie Renee Cook. Nancy is further survived by numerous grand and great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Marion Dall Kotel. Nancy’s family has given the family of Lowe-Neddo Funeral Home the privilege of caring for her and for them. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 6, 2018, at the funeral home starting at 1 pm.

At 2 pm, all present will gather in the chapel for a service honoring the life, love and blessing of Nancy. Following the service, all are invited to join the family in formal procession to Nancy’s final place of earthly rest at Sunset Memory Gardens where a graveside committal will take place.
