Hampton – Nancy Margaret Waddell, born September 2, 1947 in Quincy, Mass died December 30, 2018 surrounded by her loving family following complications from a heart attack.

She taught a ski lesson at Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports that morning even falling on purpose to make the young boy feel better about himself and probably starting the day with a chocolate chip cookie. She graduated from Silver Lake High School in Pembroke, MA then moved to Merrimack College, where she met, married and started a family with Jim Waddell. They celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary March 15, 2018.

They taught and dorm parented at Hampshire Country School, served as foster parents for Downeyside, camp counselors at Woodcraft Camps, taught skiing at Mt Tom and Berkshire East. She taught school in Granby, MA before becoming a social worker for West Mass Elder Care. After retirement, she worked at the Children’s Center on the Phillips Exeter campus telling the toddlers that she was “Fancy Nancy” and laughing when they told her she wasn’t fancy.

She and Jim taught adaptive skiing at Waterville Valley, she chaired the Christmas Parade in Hampton for three years and even made an award winning apple pie. While she definitely left too soon for all who loved her, she went on her terms, attending all the games of her children and grandchildren, making chocolate chip cookies and going 100 mph in life until she stopped. She is survived by her husband Jim, sons Chris and Matt, grandchildren, Mills, Hayes and Ella and daughters-in-law Jean and Jen.

A Celebration of her life will be held from 2-5 pm Sunday January 6th at the Ashworth by the Sea 295 Ocean Blvd. , Hampton Beach, NH. In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to Waterville Valley Adaptive Sports or to One Revolution her son’s non-profit.
