Nelda was born on January 22, 1937 to Harry Duncan and Dorothy Oretha (Brooks) Appling in Luling, Texas. She married George Donald Marion on September 5, 1956 and to this union, four children were born.

She is preceded in death by her parents Harry and Dorothy, Sister Harriet Dee Appling Perez, her husband George, and infant son Harry Benjamin Marion. Surviving are daughters Sharon McCool and husband John, Sandra Blume and husband James and Shelby Koehler; granddaughters Chanda Vollmar and husband Brad, and Chrystina Green; grandson Chad Baker and five great-grandchildren. Nelda graduated from her high school studies in Ayer, Massachusetts in 1955, married George the following year and began her family.

She provided a nurturing home for her children, and instilled in them a thirst for knowledge, the value of a loving family and the importance of a strong faith in God. She taught Sunday school when the girls were growing up and also later in life. After her children were out of school, she returned to complete her education and graduated with honors from University of Houston at Clear Lake and finally a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science from the University of Texas at Austin!

Once she got started, there was no stopping her from achieving her dreams. She served as the director of the Public Library in Seguin, and also in Converse, Texas before retiring. “Mim” as she was known to her grandchildren, played a major role in the lives of her two granddaughters, she spent many hours with them, helping to shape them into the special young women they are today (and turn them into avid bird watchers, as she was!

). They were such a joy to her and she was filled with nothing but pride and love for them. Nelda was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seguin, Texas as well as former Sunday school teacher there.

It is impossible to sum up your Mother’s life in a few sentences. She will be missed for so many things: Her love, her wit, her love of life, her thirst for knowledge as well as her fierce love for her family. God Bless you Momma.

Our family would like to thank the caregivers at Nesbit Nursing and Rehabilitation for the love and care they showed our mother. And many thanks to the Hospice team from Guadalupe Regional Medical Center. Private family services will be held at a later date.
