Obituary for Nicholas Anthony Napolitano NAPOLITANO, Nicholas “Nick” of Saginaw, Michigan, passed away peacefully on Thursday, October 11, 2018 at Bay Valley House, Bay City. Age 96 years. Nicholas Anthony Napolitano was born on August 25, 1922 in Saginaw, Michigan to the late Clement and Marguirita (Veccarelli) Napolitano.
Following graduation from St. Joseph Catholic High School, Nick worked for the Napolitano Italian Bakery owned by his father. He then worked for Vescio’s Supermarket on Wadsworth Street, where he met his future wife, Marjorie J. “Honey” Reynolds. They were married on May 3, 1947 in Saginaw at St. Joseph Catholic Church.
Nick retired from General Motors in 1984 after 12 years of service. He enjoyed all sports but especially loved playing baseball, basketball and golf. He coached basketball to many students at St. Joseph and St. Andrew Catholic Schools.
Nick and Marjorie wintered in Florida for many years. There were also many memories made with his son and daughter-in-law, Tom and Sue in Interlochen and long weekends at Point Look Out, Au Gres with his daughter and son-in-law, Theresa and Ralph. Nick was very proud of his Italian heritage, and the Napolitano Bakery which is still a family owned business for over 100 years.
Nick attended St. Dominic Parish, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, and was a lifelong member of the Knights of Columbus, Council #593. Nick was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends including his daughter: Theresa (Ralph) Furlo of Saginaw; daughter-in-law, Sue Napolitano of Interlochen, MI; two grandchildren: Heather Curell and Troy (Heather) Zimmerman; two great grandchildren: Samuel, and Willow Curell; sister, Eleanor Andrezejewski.
Also surviving are his special fur baby, Riley; and many nieces and nephews whom he dearly loved. He was preceded in death by his wife, Marjorie, April 2, 2010; son, Tom Napolitano; great-grandson, Jasper Curell; brothers: Tony and Louis Napolitano; sisters: Mary Napolitano, Susie Wandzel, Clementine Rocchio, Pauline Lagalo and Ann Cesear. Nick’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to the staff and caregivers at Westcourt Retirement Community and Bay Valley House Assisted Living.
Here Nick was provided with wonderful care for many years, including hospice care provided by Denise and Evie. FUNERAL: Nick’s Funeral Liturgy will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 15, 2018 at St. Dominic Parish, SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 4735 W. Michigan Ave.
Rev. Fr. Steven M. Gavit will officiate.
Rite of Committal will follow at St. Andrew Cemetery. VISITATION: Family and friends may visit at the church on Monday, October 15, 2018 from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass. Arrangements are entrusted to Deisler Funeral Home, 2233 Hemmeter Rd.
