Nicholas J. “Nick” Bobos, 59 of Whiting, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2018 surrounded by his family at the St. Margaret Mercy Healthcare Center, Hammond. Born on February 25, 1959 to Gerald and the late Rosemary (Volom) Bobos, Nick instantly became Rose’s favorite child, and by far, her most handsome son. He attended St. John the Baptist Catholic School and was a graduate of George Rogers Clark High School, Class of 1977.

He was crowned “Casanova” of his class and was swept off his feet by the love of his life, Nancy Holiat. The two were married on August 25, 1984. His proudest accomplishment was raising his two children Ryan and Nicole.

He took great pride in his home and together with Nancy, did his best to fill it with love for their children. Earlier this year, he walked his “Heart & Soul”, Nicole, down the aisle to his son-in-law, Steve Miljus, who he loved as a son. Over the last fourteen months, he enjoyed every moment he could with his grandson, Mason Miljus.

“Papa” was always there for him, cooking, singing, teaching him to crawl, making him giggle and managed to get him to take his first steps. Nick was a retiree of NIPSCO with a service of 36 years. His motto was, “They paid me for what I know, not what I do!

”. Following retirement, he worked for the North Township Trustee at the Wicker Park Pro-Shop. He enjoyed being able to golf for free and hang out with his buddies.

He loved his part-time job because he hated being alone and paying for things! Nick was a lifelong resident of Whiting, a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, The Griffith Knights of Columbus (Rosary service, Friday at 7:00pm) and the Whiting BPOE, Lodge 1273. He loved baseball and especially coaching his son.

He enjoyed golfing, fishing, working on their garden and trips to the Caribbean with Nancy. He is survived by his beloved wife of 34 years, Nancy (nee Holiat); loving father of Ryan Bobos and Nicole (Steve) Miljus, adoring Papa of Mason Miljus; son of Gerald Bobos; cherished brother of Chris Bobos, Greg (Kathy) Bobos, Michael (Tina) Bobos and Judy (John) Fruth; dearest brother-in-law of Lori Poppen and Cindy (Tony) Matlon; many cherished nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; devoted canine companion, “Lola”.
