OBITUARY Nola Dianne Abbott February 12, 1940 – November 3, 2018 Nola Dianne (Hunter) Abbott passed away on November 3, 2018 at Baylor St. Luke Hospital in Houston. Dianne was born on February 12, 1940 in Galveston where she grew up. She moved to California in 1959 and started a family with her husband, Edward Brochu.

Dianne attended San Jose State University where she completed her Bachelor’s degree in English. She returned to Texas in 1976 and bought a home in Henderson. She resided there for more than 10 years and taught English, ESL, and drama at Laneville High School and New Summerfield High School.

Dianne then moved to Houston where she continued her teaching career at Burbank Middle School. She retired in 1999 to become a small business owner. After selling the business, she and her son, Jeff Brochu, built a home in Houston.

Her most treasured times in her life were spent with family and grandchildren. She enjoyed vacations at Crystal Beach, enjoyed playing the piano, was a wonderful cook and excellent homemaker. She was well known for her great devotion to the teachings of Jesus; she truly practiced what He would have us do in this world.

In 2008, she went on a two week mission trip to Kenya, Africa where she met the children supported by Graceworks, a California nonprofit; she often reflected on her time there as a life-changing experience. She was kind and generous, opening both her heart and her home to all who would cross her path. She had an uncanny ability to reach both people and animals in a deep and positive way.

We would be remiss not to mention her extraordinary sense of humor which was so often coupled with her ability to make the best out of what life may hand out. Her kind spirit and wonderful laughter will be missed by many who had the great fortune to know her and love her so dearly. She is survived by daughter Anna Michelle (Brochu) Ballard and husband John L. Ballard, sons Jeffrey Barrett Brochu and Edward Halsey Brochu, granddaughters Elecia Dianne Ballard and Summer Rayne Brochu, grandson Judge Bradley Brochu, grandson Garrett Chase Ballard, wife Madison (Whaley) Ballard and great granddaughter Amelia Grace Ballard.

Dianne is predeceased by daughter Laura René Brochu. A memorial service is planned for Saturday, November 17, 3:00 p.m., Forest Park East, 21620 Gulf Fwy, Webster, TX 77598. In lieu of flowers, make a donation in her name to one of the following charities: Feed the Children, Graceworks (P.O. Box 1239, Anaheim, CA 92815), or ASPCA.
