NORMA JEAN NEAL Norma Jean Neal was born December 14, 1940 in Hulbert, Oklahoma to Henry and Alberta Rogers. She was the ninth child of ten children. The family relocated to Kansas City, Missouri when Norma was three.
She attended Attucks Elementary School, and graduated from Lincoln High School, Kansas City, Missouri. She earned an Associate Degree at Penn Valley Community College (Kansas City, Missouri), a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education at Avila University (Kansas City, Missouri) and a Bachelor of Science in Human Res at St. Mary’s College (Leavenworth, Kansas). Norma was a Licensed Cosmetologist and used this gift throughout various careers in her life.
She accepted Christ and was baptized at a young age and was a member of St. Stephen Baptist Church, Kansas City, Missouri. The Sunday School, Baptist Training Unit, Drum and Bugle Corps, Young Women’s Auxiliary and Choir were a few activities that helped in her spiritual growth and development. Her other church memberships were at the Greater Mount Zion Baptist Church of Kansas City, Kansas and a church planter at Gather Them Holiness Church of Kansas City, Missouri.
Norma was a member of Eastern Star, Faith Chapter #10. Norma was blessed with the entrepreneurial spirit from husband Wendall Q. Neal (deceased) and they teamed to have three successful businesses: Neal’s Janitorial, Norm’s Tire, and a private duty Senior Care. From an outside perspective it would seem overwhelming, but Norma was organized, and she loved the business.
Family meant a lot to Norma. She would help you, was generous, and provided her nuggets of wisdom. Christmas dinner and the July 4th holidays were at her home hosting immediate family, extended family and friends.
Generations of family connected whether they were paternally or maternally related, almost like a mini family reunion at times. In Norma’s latter years she developed health issues that resulted in her relocating to St. Louis, Missouri with her daughter, Wendy and granddaughter, Crystal. For as long as possible she would return to Kansas City, Missouri to see family at holidays.
Her biggest surprise to us was in December 2018 as she joined family for Christmas Day in Kansas City. It was so memorable because memories and happy times were shared with her, her siblings, nieces and nephews. And she ate everything she wanted.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alberta Rogers; her husband, Wendall Q. Neal; sister, Lucille Rogers; brothers, James Rogers, Harry Rogers, and Glenn Rogers. Norma leaves to cherish her memories, daughter, Wendy Paulette Williams; son, Terry Genard Williams; grandchildren, TaRon Byers, Crystal Williams-Lewis, Shelby Williams, Kelsey Williams and Brandon Berry; great grandchildren, Crystal, Tarji, Jasmine and Kingston Berry; sister, Ella Simpson and Kington Berry; brothers, Clyde (Claudette) Rogers, Charles Rogers, William (Juanita) Rogers and Curtis Rogers (Von); a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
