Oneda Jean Pressley Young, 71, of Jacksonville, Florida, went to be with the Lord Tuesday, July 17, 2018. She was born October 30, 1946, in West Plains, Missouri, to Hayden Crawford Pressley and Thelma Pressley. She married Ronnie Young and had one daughter, Rhonda, and one son, Roger Dale Young.

Oneda lived the last 30 years in Jacksonville, Florida, and worked as a principal at Shorstein and Shorstein Accounting. When asked her favorite times she said “she loved holidays when the whole family would be together at Grandma Pressley’s and she loved spending time with her daughter and grandsons on family vacations”. She also remembered listening to her dad tell stories when she was little and said she could remember saying “tell another one daddy, before that one gets cold”.

She often told a story about her brothers and herself playing in the yard. She was the bad guy, they put a rope in the old tree in the yard, had her in the little wagon about to hang her when her mom ran out and saved her. O.J. was a nickname she picked up at Shorstein and Shorstein that everyone in Florida and her grandkids used.

In the words of her grandson, Trevor, “she was the most faithful person I ever met”. She was the strongest, most loving person. She was faithful and full of grace through her entire illness.

O.J. had a fierce love for her family, especially her grandsons. She was very active in their lives and they were truly blessed to have such a loving, caring grandmother. One of her nurses at the Mayo Clinic shared that she was a kind sweet person that they all loved and they were all devastated with her being on hospice.

The nurse even asked if it would be okay if they all come through to see her and pay their respects. She is now home and free from pain. O.J. was preceded in death by her parents, Hayden and Thelma Pressley; father of her children, Ronnie Young; and her son, Roger Dale Young.

O.J. leaves behind her daughter, Rhonda Thomas, three grandsons, Dalton Sandoval, Trevor Thomas and Hunter Thomas, all of Paragould, Arkansas; her fur baby cat, Socks; two brothers, H.C.Pressley and Earl Pressley; and many nieces and nephews. She is also survived by her family at Shorstein and Shorstein Accounting in Jacksonville, Florida, her church family at the Oakwood Villa Church of God of Prophecy in Jacksonville, Florida, and longtime friends, Frankie and Glenn Crawford, of Jonesboro. A graveside service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, July 23, at Shiloh Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri.

Lasting memorials may be made to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, 1 Children’s Way, Slot 661, Little Rock, AR 72202-3591.
