Obituary for Oristile Horace “O.H.” Guidry III The Master said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant. You have been faithful in handling this small amount, so now I will give you many more responsibilities. Let’s celebrate together!

” Matthew 25:23 Oristile Horace Guidry, III, age 87, known to his friends as O.H., returned to God on May 27, 2018. Born in New Orleans, he is survived by his cherished wife of 64 years, Lorraine Paternostro Guidry. He was the revered father of Greg (Cathy), a Justice with the Louisiana Supreme Court; Gavin (Jutana), a retired Lieutenant Colonel with the United States Army, and Gaye (Judge John Molaison), a career educator.

He was the proud grandfather of Ellie Guidry, Patrick Guidry, Jackson Molaison, Gavin Guidry, Jr., and Ty Guidry. O.H. was preceded in death by his father, Oristile Horace Guidry, Jr. and his mother, Winnie Kling Guidry. He attended Marrero High School, obtained a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana, where he was a standout baseball player, and earned a Master of Education degree from Loyola University, completing an additional 30 hours of graduate study.

O.H. proudly served as a First Lieutenant in the United States Air Force and then pursued his passion for education as a gifted teacher and coach at East Jefferson High School, and then at Marrero Junior High School. His administrative talents were exemplified through his service first as an assistant principal and principal at Marrero Junior High School and later as principal at West Jefferson High School for eight years. He also served as the Director of the Jefferson Parish Parks and Recreation Department and enjoyed two distinguished terms as an elected board member of the Jefferson Parish School Board.

O.H. was a great communicator with an indomitable and caring spirit who spent many joyful hours tending to his meticulous garden and the horses and cattle on his beloved farm in St. Tammany Parish. He loved everyone without reservation, and this had a powerful effect on many people, especially those who were not accustomed to being treated with respect. In his eyes, everyone was equal and worthy of love.

The family wishes to thank all of those who are part of the warm and caring West Jefferson community that O.H. loved so much.
