Obituary for Othmar Ringeman Othmar Ringeman, 91, of St. Meinrad, passed away on Wednesday, October 10th at Scenic Hills Care Center in Ferdinand. Othmar was born April 23, 1927 in St. Meinrad to August and Clara (Niehaus) Ringeman. He married Virginia Jent on July 2, 1949 In St. Meinrad Catholic Church.

She preceded him in death on November 13, 2012. Othmar was an Electrical Engineer who retired from General Electric after 39 years of service. Othmar enjoyed serving his community.

He was President of the Development Corporation, President of St. Meinrad Chamber of Commerce, President of Senior Housing Project and President of St. Meinrad Utilities. Othmar was involved in obtaining funding for the St. Meinrad Community Center, St. Meinrad Senior Housing and St. Meinrad Street Light Fund. He was responsible for the St. Meinrad Sewer Project, which resulted in him receiving the Sagamore of the Wabash Award.

He was a board member of the Spencer County Community Foundation for 6yrs. Othmar was a volunteer EMT for 10 years. He loved fixing anything electrical and was very much a handyman.

Othmar enjoyed bowling for many years with his wife, Virginia. He was a member of St. Meinrad Catholic Church. Othmar served in the US Army and was a 70 year member of St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366.

Othmar is survived by three sons, Kenneth (Debbie) Ringeman of Kernersville, NC, Steven (Deb) Ringeman of Evansville and Michael (Jennifer) Ringeman of Daylight; two daughters, Rebecca (Alan) Polster of Evanston and Donna (Ed) Balbach of Mariah Hill; one brother, Lee Ringeman of Santa Claus and a sister Mary Alice Ruxer of St. Meinrad; eleven grandchildren and ninteen great-grandchildren. Funeral services will Tuesday at 10:00 AM CDT in St. Meinrad Catholic Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. St. Meinrad American Legion Post 366 will provide military graveside rights.

Visitation will be Monday from 2-8:00 PM CDT at Becher Funeral Home in Ferdinand and Tuesday from 9:00 AM CDT until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Othmar and Virginia Ringeman Family Scholarship Fund through the Spencer County Community Foundation.
