OBITUARY Otis Glendon Smith Sr. June 21, 1933 – November 23, 2018 Otis Glendon Smith, Sr., 85, returned to his heavenly home on November 23, 2018. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him in his struggles (along with the good folks at Autumn Woods Health Campus) and ultimately gave him peace. Otis was born to the late Virgil and Castira Smith, a laborer and a homemaker respectively, in Wisemantown, Kentucky on June 21, 1933.

He was immersed in the Christian faith that would be his lifelong journey from an early age of 17. He joined the army in 1953, and also served the National Guard for many years. He retired from General Electric in 1995 after 28 years of service.

Otis was blessed with a loving family. He married a young woman from Adair County, Kentucky, Pauline Giles Smith, on December 7, 1956 in New Albany, Indiana. Otis helped raise four children with patience, discipline, and love.

He taught them to play, took them to church, and often took them on family trips to see their grandparents Giles on the farm near Knifley, Kentucky. From the very beginning, he dedicated his children to God and encouraged them to explore the truth of the gospels. Otis was a Christian in his heart, mind and soul.

He was kind and soft-spoken, and always had time to help others, no matter who. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. Otis is survived by his wife, Pauline; his sons Glendon (Amy) and Donald (Diane); his daughters Diana (John) Jones and Pamela Keene; his grandchildren, Melanie Lynn, Adam Wesley, Sara Elizabeth, Abigail Ann, Emily Sue, Elisabeth Rose, Andrea Michelle, Olivia Louise, Rebekah Faith, Naomi Grace, and Lydia Hope; his 11 great grandchildren; and his brothers, Samuel (Alice) Smith and Bobby (Janice) Smith.

Visitation will be from 3:00 pm until 8:00 pm Monday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana and 9:00 am until 11:00 am Tuesday at Christ’s Community Church of the Nazarene, 4920 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana.
