Pam’s Obituary Beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend Pam Templeton, age 68, of Pierre, passed away on March 22, 2019. Pam fought the good fight against liver cancer, continuing to be active with her family and friends until just a few short weeks ago. Pamela Rae Melstad was born in Lake Preston, SD on May 21, 1950 and grew up in Pierre, SD.

She graduated from Theodore F. Riggs High School and South Dakota State University. She spent her career working for the State of South Dakota, retiring in 2011. Pam was united in marriage to Roger Templeton and out of that marriage Jocelyn Rae Templeton was born.

Pam took great pleasure in watching Joci’s sporting events, listening to her sing in the choir, spending time together on the lake, and camping in the Black Hills. In recent years they had begun to travel and take cruises frequently together and this was a favorite time for both of them. Pam enjoyed gardening and sharing the bounty of her garden with her friends and family, teaching exercise classes at the YMCA, working part-time at Rawlins Municipal Library, participating in book club, going to reunions with her high school and college classmates, and experimenting with new recipes.

She had a very special relationship with her grandchildren and loved taking them to the movies and watching their sporting events. Pam is survived by her daughter, Joci of Rapid City, stepson LeeJay (Brooke) Templeton of Pierre, stepson Jamie (Jessica) Templeton of Sioux Falls, grandchildren Taylen, Whitney, Georgianna, Haley, Ireland, and Carter, great-granddaughter, Sophia, brother Jim Melstad of Helena, Montana, sister Karen (Mark) Menke of Eagan, Minnesota, and many special cousins and friends. Pam was preceded in death by her parents, James and Corinne Melstad, and grandson Jesse Templeton.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2019 at 10:00 A.M. at United Church of Christ in Pierre, SD with burial to follow at Riverside Cemetery.
