Pastor Emeritus Rodger Jackson was born April 17, 1950 in Hartsville, South Carolina to the late Mr. Squire Jackson and Mrs. Girleana Mashack Jackson. He is the oldest of eight children. Late Friday evening, January 4, 2019, Pastor Jackson heard and answered the Voice of His Lord and Savior Jesus Christ to come home.

Pastor Jackson graduated in 1968 from Butler High School in Hartsville, South Carolina. Upon graduating from high school, he moved to New York City where he initially worked as a bricklayer. Afterwards, he continued with a career that spanned 25 years with the New York City Department of Transportation Highway Division until his retirement in 2005.

On August 29, 1970, Pastor Jackson married the lovely Mary Arlene Faison Jackson. This union has been blessed with 2 beautiful children: Anthony Cleroy Jackson and Charissa Vanessa Jackson Bunbury. They are pround grandparents of 2 granddaughters: Sydney Janay Jackson and Serenity Jordyn Jackson.

Pastor Jackson was a member of the Congregational Church of God in New York City when he received his call to the ministry in 1979 under the leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Levorn Aaron. He served as Associate Minister, Deacon, Trustee, Assistant Sunday School Superintendent, Sunday School Teacher, President of Men’s Ministry, Vice President of the Youth Fellowship and Counselor.

He also served as President of the New York State Men’s and held numerous other positions with the Eastern New York General Assembly of The Church of God. Pastor Jackson also was very active within the Prison Ministry at the Bronx Detention Center in Bronx, New York. Pastor Jackson attended Anderson University of Theology, Southern California School of Ministry (off campus), Christian Bible Institute and the Manhattan Bible Institute.

After returning to Hartsville, he resumed his membership at The Church of God where he served as Associate Pastor before becoming Pastor in February 2009. Pastor Jackson enjoyed providing ministerial services at the Butler Complex for Senior Citizens (formerly Butler High School). On the third Sunday of each month, he ministered to patients at the Morrell Nursing Home in Hartsville.

Pastor Jackson was a member of the Hartsville Ministerial Alliance where he served as their treasurer, as well as a member of the Sonoco Men’s Group. If you asked Pastor Jackson how he was doing his famous reply was “I’m grateful and I got a lot to be grateful for” or I’m grrreeaatt” (In his Tony the Tiger Voice). Anyone who came in contact with him knew he loved the Lord, as his testimony was always in song as he sang “He’s Sweet I Know”.

Pastor Jackson always said he was living so that he could live again cause he loved serving God by serving God’s people. Pastor Emeritus Rodger Jackson leaves to cherish his loving wife of 48 years, Sister Mary Arlene Faison Jackson; his children, Anthony C. (Sharmen) Jackson of Tallahassee, FL and Charissa V. (late Courtney) Bunbury of Hartsville, SC; three sisters, Denise Forte of Hartsville, SC, Winifier Jackson of Bronx, NY and Patricia Edwards of Columbia, SC; a sister, Margie Ann Marshall preceded him in death; four brothers, Heyward (Joretta) Jackson of Columbia, SC, Eric (Sabrina) Jackson of Camden, SC, Kim (Wanda) Jackson of Rockhill, SC and Milton (Carmen) Jackson of Camden, SC; two precious grand-daughters, Sydney Janay Jackson and Serenity Jordyn Jackson; one brother-in-law, Clarence (Phyllis) Faison of Suffolk, VA; a special co-parent-in-law, Shirley Weems Taxley; and a host of many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, church family and other close relatives and friends.
