Obituary for Pat Gloor GRAND ISLAND—Dorothy ‘Pat’ Gloor, 92, of Grand Island, formerly of Fullerton, passed away Thursday, December 13, 2018, at CHI Health St. Francis in Grand Island. A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 19, 2018, at Fullerton Community Church in Fullerton with Pastor Doug McHargue officiating. A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Columbus Cemetery in Columbus.
Visitation will be 9-11 a.m. Wednesday before the service at the church. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is serving the family. Pat was born August 18, 1926, to Ray and Mabel (Hansen) Heynen at Columbus, NE.
She grew up in Columbus. Her father passed away while she was in junior high and, during high school, she traveled with her mother to Los Angeles to spend her summers with relatives. In 1944 she graduated from Columbus High School.
She then attended Ward-Belmont College in Nashville, TN from 1944-1945 and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln from 1945-1948. She graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in Radio Communications. On December 29, 1948, she married Calvin Gloor.
They resided in Alliance, NE for two years before moving to Fullerton in 1954, where her husband managed Cedar Valley Lumber Company. After Cal passed away in 2016, she moved to Riverside Retirement Lodge in Grand Island. Pat was a mother and homemaker.
She also served on the Fullerton Library Board (as treasurer) for 40 years and Fullerton Public School Board for 16 years. She was a member of P.E.O. for over 70 years, where she served as president of her local chapter in 1960 and 1976 and was also on the state P.E.O Home board. She was an elder/trustee of the First Presbyterian Church in Fullerton, where she also served as a youth group leader.
Additionally, she volunteered for meals-on-wheels, school activities, Red Cross Bloodmobile, election board assistant, and multiple church activities. She enjoyed traveling, reading, music, sports, and playing cards/bridge. She is survived by three sons and daughters-in-law, Mike (Marie) Gloor of Grand Island, Mark (Jane) Gloor of Grand Island, and Calvin Mitchell (Wendy) Gloor of Liberty, MO; grandchildren, Marnie, Brock, Nicole, Natalie, and Chancelor; great-grandchildren, Calder and Embry; cousins; sister-in-law, Lilly Schneeberger of Kansas City; many nieces and nephews and their spouses; special friends, Chris and Julie; and a wonderful group of friends who brightened her life and days.
She was preceded in death by her husband and an infant son, John.
