COLUMBUS–Barbara Jean Boryca, 69, of Columbus, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 6, 2019, at Life Care Center of Elkhorn. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2019, at St. Bonaventure’s Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Michael Swanton officiating. Burial will be at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, February 9th at Ss.

Peter and Paul Cemetery at Krakow (rural Genoa). Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. with a 7 p.m. rosary service on Friday, February 8th at the church. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home in Fullerton is serving the family.

Barb was born March 5, 1949 to Lawrence T. and Martha G. (Swertzic) Gdowski at Genoa. She attended country school north of Fullerton. She then attended St. Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Fullerton High School in 1967.

She attended Columbus Beauty School in Columbus and graduated in 1968. On June 22, 1968, she married Eugene Boryca at St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Fullerton and they made their home in Columbus. She worked at multiple retail stores and factories and retired from Nebraska Public Power.

She was diagnosed with Type I diabetes as a teenager and received a kidney and pancreas transplant in 1998 and she was blessed with 20 more years with her family. She loved to read books, magazines, and recipe books. She enjoyed going on car rides with Gene and spending time with her children and grandchildren.

She was very generous and would do anything for anyone. She is survived by her husband, Eugene Boryca of Columbus; daughter, Victoria (Rob) Smith of La Vista; son, David Boryca of Omaha; grandchildren, Ethan, Emily, and Zachary Smith; great-grandchildren, Chloey Smith; and sisters, Doris (David) Bride of Lincoln, Stella (Bob) Dush of Duncan, and JoAn Brezenski of Columbus. She is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Johnny.
