ST. EDWARD—Karen Olive Niemann, 84, of St. Edward, passed away unexpectedly, Friday, March 8, 2019, at Cloverlodge Care Center in St. Edward, where she was recovering from a recent fall at her home. Funeral services will be at 7 p.m. Thursday, March 14, 2019, at United Methodist Church in St. Edward with Reverend Vern Olson officiating.

A private family inurnment will be at a later date at Evergreen Cemetery in St. Edward. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Thursday, March 14th prior to the service at the church. Palmer-Santin Funeral Home is serving the family.

Karen was born February 4, 1935 to Ralph and Esther (Lightner) Martin at the St. Edward Hospital. After Esther’s untimely death soon after Karen’s birth, Karen was raised by her maternal grandparents, Olive (Oline) and Stephen W. Lightner. She attended St. Edward Public Schools and graduated in 1953.

She married Jewell Niemann on October 4, 1953 at the St. Edward Presbyterian Church. After Jewell served in the army, they resided in St. Edward raising their four children: Lindsey, Tami, Sandy, and Jody. Karen enjoyed her family, coffee friends, sewing, and crocheting.

She is survived by her children, Lindsey (Lynn) Niemann of Lincoln, Tami (Kenny) Jenkins of St. Edward, Sandy (Joe) Dubas of Mesa, AZ, and Jody Maslonka of Columbus; eight grandchildren and six great-grandsons; and sister-in-law, Marlene Crowe and husband, Cecil, of Pueblo, CO. She is preceded in death by her husband, Jewell; her parents; brother-in-law, LeRoy Niemann; and sister-in-law, Sandi Niemann. Memorials are suggested to the family.
