Obituary for Patricia Ann Whiters Patricia Ann Whiters (Roberts) 66-Went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 23, 2018. She is now at peace and will be missed. Born in the Southern Carolina area on March 17, 1952 as the only Child of Willie & Catherine Roberts who both preceded her in death.

She was raised in the Alexandria Virginia area where she married her first husband James Sykes and had her first daughter, Katrina Sykes. Later she married Timothy Whiters, and had her second daughter, Christine Gardner (Whiters). They then moved to Kansas City, Kansas in search of their own farm.

Patricia was the First African American woman to become a Switchman for Roc Island Railroad. Which later was purchased by Union Pacific. Patricia was lover of people made a difference.

She worked at KCK Health Extension for several years educating women and children in health and nutrition. She went on to Work for the YWCA and formed Girls Inc She mentored at-risk young ladies in the Wyandotte KS area.

Her work earned her a full front page in the Kansas City Kansan. She Believed in using her life experiences to help others to avoid the same pitfalls. She later worked for the KC Free Health Clinic- where she helped change behaviors that would lead to HIV/AIDS, affectionately known as the “Condom Lady”.

Prior to a life changing stroke, she continued to work in the same field on the administrative side in the DC area. As an avid walker she enjoyed outdoor activities, reading, music, the arts, good conversation, mixing well in all social circles. She will be missed by her daughters, Katrina Sykes, Christine Gardner (Quentin), her grandchildren, Catherine Spivey, Joshua Gardner, Jasmin Gardner.
