Obituary for Dr. William Edelman Dr. William Edelman, 97, of Leawood, Kansas passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2018. A private graveside service at Mt Moriah Cemetery will be held on Tuesday, November 13. Bill was born July 22, 1921, in Cleveland, OH to Louis and Elizabeth Edelman.

He attended Case Institute (now Case Western Reserve University) and the University of Ohio, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After service in World War II, including stints in Okinawa and Nagasaki after the atomic bomb, he attended osteopathic college, first in Kirksville, MO, and later at Kansas City College of Osteopathic Medicine (KC COM), where he received his Doctor of Osteopathy degree in 1949. While studying at KC COM, Bill met his bride to be, the former Doris Tager.

They were married at Congregation Kehilath Israel Beth Shalom on August 31, 1947, a day so hot that the top tier of the cake melted. He opened a private practice in the East Bottoms, treating the area’s blue collar workers and truck farmers, some of whom would trade poultry or vegetables for his services. He built the Midwest Clinic at 3315 Prospect in the 1950s; subsequent moves took his medical practice downtown and to 63rd and Rockhill, where his dedicated patients followed him for his kind words and sensitive diagnoses.

He retired in 2001, having served the Kansas City community as a general practitioner/family physician for more than fifty years. Bill dabbled in real estate, owning apartment buildings in the midtown and Plaza areas from his first days in Kansas City. He was an accomplished tennis player and a favorite at bridge and poker games all over town.

Bill will be remembered for his sense of humor, quick wit and gentle and easygoing demeanor, as well as his venerable second place finishes in the family Oh Hell tournament. Bill was preceded in death by Doris, his parents and brother, Sidney. He is survived by sons and daughters-in-law: Mark Edelman and Karin Lichterman and their son C.J. and daughter Risa; Alan Edelman and Debbie Sosland-Edelman and their son Alex, daughter Katja, son Jonathan and Katja’s husband Ari Fine and their daughter Noa Dorit, Bill’s great-granddaughter; and Ron Edelman and Joan Nunnink and their sons Thomas, Tim and Joe.
