Obituary for Dorothy Kaufman Dorothy Kaufman, 92, passed away peacefully on November 12, 2018, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Kansas City, Missouri and spent many years living in Warrensburg, Missouri during The Great Depression. At Central High School, she was the Art Editor and Yearbook Editor for her class.

She graduated from the University of Missouri- Columbia in 1948 with a degree in Fine Arts; she was an active member of Phi Sigma Sigma Sorority at the University. In 1953 she married Max H Kaufman, and they remained married until his death in 2007. Dorothy was a member of Beth Shalom Synagogue and Congregation BIAV where she also served as a Sisterhood volunteer.

She worked for both the Jewish Theological Seminary and American Royal. While raising her daughters she was a devoted PTA President, Girl Scouts Leader, and Picture Lady. She then went to work for Stix, Baer and Fuller which later became Dillard’s department store.

During her 10-year career, she earned numerous sales awards and accolades. Dorothy was an avid mystery reader, lover of Jeopardy! , and an incredibly gifted painter; she loved to cook for events and gatherings that brought her family together.

She was also a breast cancer survivor for over 40 years. She has three accomplished and devoted daughters and a son-in-law, Cheryl Kaufman, Linda Gollub, and Denise and Steve Ellenberg. She is proud of her seven grandchildren and their spouses: Rose Moran and Joseph Moran, Rebecca Kanter and Dan Parrott, Brian Pener, Stefanie Kanter, Grant Ellenberg, Francine Gollub, and Blaire Ellenberg, and great-granddaughter, Eva Moran.

She is also survived by her sister, Miriam Birnbaum, sisters-in-law: Sarah Zeldin, Jeanette Dubin, and Rosemary Silverman, brother-in-law, Victor Springer, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Carrie Silverman (Nadlman), sister, Shirley Silverman, brother, Stanley Silverman, and brother-in-law, Leibert Birnbaum. Funeral services will be held at 2:00pm Wednesday, November 14, 2018 at the Louis Memorial Chapel, 6830 Troost Ave, Kansas City, MO.

Interment will be at Mt. Carmel Cemetery. Kindly omit flowers and make donations in her memory to Village Shalom, the Heritage Center at the JCC and Congregation Beth Shalom.
