Patricia Louise Dwyer Loner, 96, formerly of Logansport, passed away on Sunday, June 10, 2018, in Sarasota, Florida. She was born in Logansport, IN on December 15, 1921 to Olga Louise Hooley Dwyer and John Richard Dwyer. She graduated from St. Vincent Elementary School, Logansport High School and Logansport Business College.
She worked for Landis & Hannah Law Firm before beginning her 44-year career at the Indiana State Employment Service. For her loyal and outstanding public service there, she was awarded the Sagamore of the Wabash. Patty was married for only two, but happy, years to Lawrence Loner, and they had one daughter, Marianne, who was Patty’s closest and dearest companion for the remainder of her life.
Patty was a world traveler, visiting Alaska, the Alpine region of Europe, Canada, Ireland, France and Hawaii, among other places. In the USA, her favorite site was Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. She ascended in hot air balloons on 3 exhilarating occasions.
She loved live theater and attended plays at venues ranging from the Frank McHale Auditorium (which she loved) to NYC’s Broadway. She was an avid film fan and was a sought-after partner in Trivial Pursuit for her encyclopedic knowledge of movies and actors. She was a devoted member of St. Joseph/All Saint’s parish.
Patty spent her life (both personal and professional) caring for others with a kindness that touched hundreds of people over 5 generations. She was considered an amazing role model of resilient self-sufficiency; she was never known to say an unkind word about anyone. She was loved and respected by everyone who experienced her self-effacing gentleness.
Patty was preceded in death by her husband, Lawrence Loner, her sister, Marilyn Dwyer Frushour, her granddaughter, Caroline Schippereit, her niece, Joyce Frushour Lindley, and her nephew, David Frushour. She is survived by her daughter, Marianne Loner Schippereit, her granddaughter, Shannon Schippereit Brewster, and her grandson-in-law, William Brewster, great-grandchildren, Madeleine, Matthew and Amanda Brewster, and grandnieces, Megan Lindley Boutwell and Maurene Lindley Glunt and grandnephew, Justin Lindley, as well as six great grandnieces and grandnephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, June 18, 2018, at All Saints Catholic Church with Father Dominic Petan officiating.
Interment will be in the Mount Calvary section of Mount Hope Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday, June 17th, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Kroeger Funeral Home, where the rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to All Saints Catholic Church, 112 East Market Street, Logansport 46947 or Save The Redwoods League, 111 Sutter Street, San Francisco 94104.
