Obituary of Patrick Schaefer Patrick Lawrence Schaefer January 21, 1942 – December 8, 2018 A resident of Soquel Patrick Lawrence Schaefer passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loved ones on December 8, 2018. Pat was born on January 21, 1942 in San Jose to Charles and Mildred Schaefer. He attended Del Mar High School in San Jose, where he met the love of his life, Mirriam.

They were married on April 24, 1964 and enjoyed 54 years of marriage. After high school, Pat served in the National Guard for 6 years and then began his long career in floor covering. He moved to Soquel in 1976, where he lived for the next 42 years.

He and his wife opened Schaefer Floor Coverings in Soquel and owned the company for 25 years. He enjoyed many years at their Delta weekend home, boating, socializing and relaxing with friends and family. He traveled extensively throughout his life with his wife and friends.

Pat was a classic car enthusiast and loved taking his 58 Impala and 56 Ford Pickup to classic car shows. Pat was known for his wicked sense of humor and love of a good time. He could build and fix anything.

He was happiest when he was with his family. He leaves behind his wife Mirriam Schaefer, daughter Shawn Coulson, son Keith Schaefer and 4 grandsons Jared Schaefer, Logan Schaefer, Joseph Coulson, Adrian Coulson and his brother Dale Schaefer. We are all so very lucky to have had such an incredible husband, father and grandfather in our lives.

We want to extend a special thank you to his caregivers and Hospice of Santa Cruz for providing wonderful compassion and care to Pat. Services will be held on Saturday, January 5 at 1pm at the First Congregational Church of Soquel, located at 4951 Soquel Dr. In lieu of flowers donations to the Parkinson’s Foundation would be appreciated.
