Patsy Jane Self Harrelson, 87, of Charlotte, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. Patsy was born September 1, 1931 in Cherryville to the late Thomas C. and Lottie Newton Self. She was also preceded in death by beloved husband of 64 years, John Logan Harrelson.

She has worn many hats in her lifetime, the most important was serving Jesus. Patsy taught children, from preschool to adults at Newell Baptist Church and she was gifted in teaching and producing many dramas and plays for the glory of God. She sang in the choir with a beautiful strong alto voice and when the movie, “Max,” was shot at our church, she was more than pleased to be a “movie star” choir member.

Patsy worked diligently in the bus ministry for 20 years, visiting on Saturday, and riding the bus on Sunday to and from church with all the children who wanted to come. She was church treasurer, served on many committees through her life. Survivors include daughter, Denise Harrelson of Charlotte; daughter, Donnie Harrelson Clayton and husband, Dale, of Raleigh; daughter, Leah Harrelson Ashworth and husband, John D. of Brevard.

Patsy’s greatest treasures were her three daughters, 10 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm – 1:45 pm, Monday, November 19, 2018 at Newell Baptist Church, Charlotte. The funeral service will be on Monday at 2:00 pm at Newell Baptist Church, officiated by Rev.

Frank Dooley, Rev. Chris Hilliard, and Rev. Scott Keith.

Burial will follow in church cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newell Baptist Church, 9115 Newell Baptist Church Rd, Charlotte NC 28213. Hartsell Funeral Home of Harrisburg is serving the Harrelson family.
