Patti’s Obituary Patti Jo Childs, 87, of Sedalia, passed away Thursday, February 21, 2019 at Fair View Nursing Home. Patti was born May 31, 1931 in Sedalia, a daughter of the late Courtis L. and Kathryn H. (Brunkhorst) Howard. Patti was baptized in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church at Sedalia, MO on July 5, 1931, and was later confirmed on May 18, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church.

She was a graduate of Smith-Cotton High School in the class of 1949. She participated on the Archives staff, the Art Department, Spiz Club, and lettered in music, playing violin in the Orchestra and Rythamares – a dance band. Patti attended CMSU where she met Norman Childs.

They were married May 25, 1952 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church by the Rev. Walter F. Strickert. Patti was employed at Southwestern Bell Telephone Company, Interstate Studio and Connor-Wagoner.

She retired after 18 years as the office manager in the Optometric Offices of Dr. C.A. Kirkpatrick (12 years) and Dr. Brett Liesemeyer (6 years). Patti was a faithful member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She served on the Altar Guild, was an Assistant Brownie Scout Leader, and an active member of the Lutheran Women’s Missionary League, serving in various capacities.

Patti loved making greeting cards, and working in her flower beds and sharing them with family, the sick, and shut-ins. When someone would say how pretty the flowers were, her reply was, “God makes them grow and I just take care of them”. In their younger years, Pat and Norm enjoyed dancing, traveling with Norm’s two brothers and their wives, and spending time with family and friends.

Patti enjoyed a lifelong friendship with her girlfriends from high school, a group affectionately called the PNs. Her church card group and the Esther Circle members were very special to her. Patti was a loving, caring wife, mother, grandmother and friend, who will be greatly missed.

Surviving are a daughter Cathy Childs of Lee’s Summit, MO; a son Mark Childs (Carin) of Wichita, KS; four grandchildren; two nephews and two nieces. She was preceded in death by her husband, Norman D. Childs on September 20, 2018. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church with Pastor Jeremy Freeman officiating.

Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until service time Tuesday at the church. Memorial donations are suggested to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, in care of McLaughlin Funeral Chapel.
