Paul E. DeKeyrel, 86, of Illinois City, passed away Thursday May 31, 2018. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m. Monday at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Andalusia. Burial will be in Illinois City Cemetery, Illinois City.

A Rosary will be recited at 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home and Crematory, 201 E. 4th Ave. , Milan, with visitation following from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Sunday. Memorials may be made to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church or to Hospice Compassus.

Paul was born February 5, 1932 in Illinois City, Ill. , a son of Rene and Helena VanLandegen DeKeyrel. He married Veneta I. Asay on January 8, 1949 in Milan, Ill.

Paul was a carpenter, farmed for many years, and delivered the Rock Island Argus for many years. He grew tomatoes for Heinz, sold produce at the farmers’ market and held many consignment auctions. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church.

He will be fondly remembered as a hard worker and provider for his family. Surviving are his wife, Veneta, of Illinois City; children (and their spouses), Harvey (Janet) DeKeyrel, Seaton, Ill. , Rene (Donna) DeKeyrel, Illinois City, Janet (Jeffrey) Bennett, New Boston, Ill.

, Roger (Priscilla) DeKeyrel, Illinois City, Bruce (Lori) DeKeyrel, Illinois City, Melanie (Carl) Geertz, New Boston, Hope (Jason) Curry, Muscatine, Iowa, and Amy (Tim) Robinson, Illinois City; seventeen grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews, and additional family. Paul was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Alois, Frank and Henry; sisters, Rosie, Madelene, Margaret, Laura, Dorothy and Wilma.
