Pauline’s Obituary Pauline Koening, 89, of Simonton, Texas passed away on Monday, March 18, 2019. Pauline Hixson Koening, went to be with the Lord on March 18th, 2019 at the age of 89. She was born October 21, 1929 in West, Texas to the late K. Hixson and Doris Findley Hixson.
After birth, her family lived in Hixson, TN for a short period and then later moved to San Jacinto, Texas where she attended Galena Park High School. After school she worked as a bookkeeper for First National Bank on Main Street in Houston. She then married her late husband Martin and enjoyed 67 years of happy marriage.
Together their love for the outdoors initiated a move to the small town of Simonton, Texas in 1953. They made their living farming hay, cotton, corn, milo and also raised cattle. She loved cooking, baking and was an avid “pecan picker”.
We will forever remember the soothing tune of her “whistling” in the kitchen while she cooked and cleaned. When everyone came home filthy from the day’s work, she would joke that the dirt ring around their neck was “Grandma’s Beads”. Besides work on the farm, Pauline was a devoted member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wallis.
She volunteered countless hours preparing delicious meals (especially desserts) in the kitchen and assisted with the children’s Vacation Bible School. She was an active member of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary in Wallis. She enjoyed caring for her grandchildren and attending their sporting events as well as supporting the Astros, Rockets and Texans.
Pauline always looked forward to attending church dinners, socializing with her friends over lunch or hair appointments, and listening to the classic tunes on the RFD Country Channel. Pauline will always be known by her family as a super strong and tough woman. It is no surprise that within 12 hours of her passing, and out of extreme strength and courage, she made it a point to say “I love my whole family, and I will see you in heaven”.
She will deeply be missed also by her dog “Puddin”. Pauline is preceded in death by husband, Martin; brothers: Bill Sr., K Jr., Eugene and Gerald Hixson; sisters: Mary Sheridan and Katherine LaRue. She is survived by her brother Sherald Hixson of Houston, sister in laws: Dorthy Hixson of San Angelo, Carol Hixson of California, and Shirley Koening of San Antonio, Texas.
Daughter: Deborah Fojtik and husband Frank of Rosenberg, Texas, Son: Gary and wife Janet of Houston; Grandsons Jeffrey Fojtik and friend Penny McCauley of Orchard, Texas; Keith Koening of Bayfield, Colorado and Cody Koening of Austin, Texas; Grand-daughter Marcie Hendershot and husband Shannon of Rosenberg, Texas; Great-Grandchildren Jacob and Juliana Hendershot of Rosenberg, Texas. Pauline is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and a host of loving friends. In the lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made in her name to St. Paul Lutheran Church, P. O. Box 427, Wallis, Texas, 77485.
